Tim “Q-Man” Quigley may be the youngest member of “British Vinyl,” but he has the most experience on his instrument(s). Born and raised in Hudson NY, Tim began accordion lessons at age six. His Uncle, Mr. Carmine Ciancetta, was an accordion teacher and professional musician, a man, says Tim, who “I would like to acknowledge as a huge influence on shaping my musical being. Thanks, Unc!”
It wasn’t long before Tim began playing for the rest of the Hudson community. By his early teens, Tim was performing at local talent shows, charity benefits, and “Bring Our Soldiers Home for the Holidays” events.
At 16, Tim fell in with older, seasoned musicians in the “Borscht Belt” as many veterans affectionately still call it. [Editor's Note: You'll have to ask Tim how he passed for 18) Joining Local #676 AFL-CIO American Federation of Musicians (Shoutout to Labor! Ed.), Tim gained invaluable experience playing with veteran musicians willing to share decades of learning with the young Accordionist. There was dance music; ethnic music the likes of Italian, Polish, German, Irish, Jewish, (this was the Catskills, after all); Show Tunes; Live Comedy Acts; Dance Troupes; Big Bands; Solo Singers; and so on… as well as playing the old standards, Latin Styles, Western Swing, Country and the Top 40 hits of the day.
Did you ever dance to live entertainment throughout late 20th Century Hudson Valley, New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, or Connecticut? If so, then you probably heard Tim in local bands such as “The Classics,” (later, “The New Classics”), FlipSide, the Watt4 Band, Chaos, Quantum, Mirage, and Nightmoves. It was during this time that Tim added piano and keyboards, along with accordion, to the Bands’ overall sound.
Are you a Theater Geek? If so, you’ve likely heard Tim’s mellifluous melodies in local theater productions of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” and “Hello, Dolly!” Just to name a few.
“I feel very fortunate to have played with and learned from the many talented musicians and show people I’ve interacted with through the years. And with “British Vinyl,” we can step back in time (if only in our minds) and relive some of the music of the greatest Rock ’n Roll era that ever was.”
British Vinyl and their fans are indeed fortunate to have a keyboard player of Tim’s experience and caliber, someone who can whip all those genres and styles into one tasty and defining stew that gives “British Vinyl” it’s distinctive flavor.
