Paying Tribute to Songs You Love From Across the Pond 1963-73.
I was told I was born holding a pair of drum sticks and singing my heart out.
It was the 60’s and 70’s and I was involved in some form of band or chorus throughout my youth. Playing in my school’s marching band, and the jazz band, along with chorus and church choirs.
Born and raised in the coal mining region of eastern Pennsylvania, I also played drums in a local Polka band. After graduation, I attended West Chester State teachers college majoring in Music Education. Due to life changes and family obligations, I dropped out and began my next stage of life. I ended up in the business world managing multiple Drug and Department stores. This career was very demanding of my time, so music and bands were not possible, but there was plenty of time to get married!
We had 2 children and then one day my wife said she would no longer move when my job required us to do so again, so I changed professions. This change allowed me the time to get back into playing and singing my music.
In 1995, I met a keyboard player who convinced me to buy a set of drums, which I did, and eventually was asked to join his band, The Quinn Martin Project. Later I followed him into the band Karisma. Both were rock cover bands out of Hillsdale, NY.
Trying to branch out, I started a band called Quantum which was based out of Athens, NY. Here is where I played drums but also began doing lead vocals. After 2 years of Quantum music, I left that band and started “Fossil Rock,” based out of Valatie, NY. The year before I was involved in a rear end auto accident and found it to be a little tough to play drums, so, I fronted Fossil Rock for over 6 years. We played in clubs and few County Fairs throughout the Capital area and south. Fossil Rock ended and I took a few years off.
In 2010, a member of Fossil Rock contacted me and we started a trio called “Snap.” We played in clubs around the Capital Region for about 6 years. In 2018, I met back up with musicians from Quantum and they were back playing in a band called “Night Moves” and needed a drummer. Back to playing the old standards again, with a few Country songs mixed in.
Sadly, our bookings were limited, so I began to look for other opportunities as I wanted to play more. A local musician from a band called “The Reverberators” had a few gigs lined up in 2022 and 2023 and he asked me to join him. Another local band called “Northern Comfort” was reforming and I did a few gigs with them as lead Vocalist.
In 2022, I auditioned as a lead singer for a British Invasion Band out of Albany, NY. I was accepted but the organizers gave up and the band never materialized. I thought this was a great idea and pursued this new vision by seeking other like-minded musicians until finding the members of the now, “British Vinyl Band” – musicians who love to have fun while playing their hearts out.
The future? I am ready and looking forward to being a part of this new and exciting venture -performing the great music of the British Invasion along with these great musicians.
The British Vinyl Band Is:
Dave B - Lead guitar and vocals
Tim Q - Keyboards and vocals
Dale W - Percussion and Lead vocals
Dave G - Drums and vocals
Pete D - Bass Guitar and vocals
